Our Trail Scoring System
We’ve come up with our own trail scoring system. Not to be confused with trail ratings, which note the difficulty of hiking trails, our scoring system looks at three main points: Navigability, scenery, and atmosphere. The scoring categories are broken down into point values, with a total of 10 points possible.
- Navigability (2 possible points)
When it comes to navigation, not all trails are created equal. Are the trails well-marked? Is it easy to find your way around, or should you plan to bring a map and a compass? - Scenery (5 possible points)
We all have our own reasons for hitting the trails, from weight loss to stress relief. There is, however, one constant that all hikers have in common as a reason to be outdoors: The scenery. Is there anything noteworthy or particularly spectacular to see along the trail? - Atmosphere (3 possible points)
Some places have that special “something” that you just can’t describe. Does the trail have that extra “X factor” that makes it stand out?
