About Lake Bluff Audubon Society Bird Sanctuary

The Lake Bluff Audubon Society Bird Sanctuary is a 72-acre nature reserve nestled on the Lake Michigan shoreline just north of Orchard Beach State Park in Manistee, Michigan.  The sanctuary boasts one of the area’s most picturesque sections of beach, with 1,600 feet of Lake Michigan shoreline set against a backdrop of high, sandy bluffs.

The grounds of the Lake Bluff Audubon Society Bird Sanctuary are open to the public year-round from dawn until dusk.  There are no permits or usage fees required to hike at Lake Bluff, however they do accept donations to help fund the operations of the sanctuary.  Donation canisters can be found alongside information signs on the main grounds.

The sanctuary is a great place for wildlife viewing.  The visitor information center (located on the grounds just to the south of the Manor) has many free handouts about different spices of birds and other wildlife in the area.  Here you can also find information on environmental conservation and other places in the region to visit.

The Manor on the grounds of the sanctuary offers unique bed-and-breakfast style accommodations.  The facilities at Lake Bluff Audubon Society Bird Sanctuary are also available to rent for occasions such as weddings, family reunions, and meetings.  Facility rental fees are very reasonable, and all revenue collected from room and site rentals goes directly to the day-to-day operations of the sanctuary.
